Brisbane Airport (IATA: BNE) is the main airport serving Brisbane and Southeast Queensland. Home to at least 31 airlines flying to over 50 domestic and 29 international destinations, it is a central hub for Virgin Australia and Qantas and a secondary hub for Jetstar.

The facility is one of the primary connection points in Australia, following Sydney and Melbourne. Brisbane Airport has international and domestic passenger terminals, a cargo terminal, a general aviation terminal, an apron, and two runways. Transfer Services at Brisbane Airport

The Airport line provides service between each terminal, Brisbane, and Gold Coast. There are two stops along a privately operated rail line to the airport. Both the airport's domestic and international train stations are elevated above the ground. Most trains continue to the Gold Coast after stopping in South Bank.

Both stations are owned and operated by the AirTrain Citylink collaboration. For this reason, the cost is more than a typical suburban ticket but less than a cab.

History of Brisbane Airport

Eagle Farm Airfield, located 6 kilometers northeast of Brisbane and 5 kilometers southwest of Brisbane Airport's Domestic Terminal, was Brisbane's first airport, constructed in 1925 on former agricultural property in the neighborhood of Eagle Farm.

Qantas began service there in 1926, although most flights out of Brisbane used the more modern Archerfield Airport due to its better landing surface. After making the first trans-Pacific journey on June 9, 1928, Charles Kingsford Smith arrived at Eagle Farm. Within the grounds of Brisbane Airport is a museum housing the original plane and memorial.

During World War II, General Douglas MacArthur commanded Allied forces in the Southwest Pacific area from his headquarters in Brisbane. To accommodate military planes, the United States military upgraded Eagle Farm Airport, which eventually became the city's primary civilian airport.

In the 1960s, Eagle Farm Airport's infrastructure had already become unsuitable for a metropolis the size of Brisbane and its projected future growth.
